On April 20 the GRAMMY Foundation joined with Best Buy Mobile, the mobile specialty retail unit of Best Buy, to surprise a group of Romeo High School students in Romeo, Mich., with a special appearance by GRAMMY-nominated artist Kid Rock.
In celebration of Best Buy Mobile's expansion in the state of Michigan, Kid Rock surprised students at his alma mater when he appeared during an assembly to present a $5,000 donation on behalf of the GRAMMY Foundation and Best Buy in support of the school's music program. In addition, Kid Rock personally matched the $5,000 donation made by Best Buy and the GRAMMY Foundation.
Kid Rock spoke to the students about the role music has played in his life. He was joined at the assembly by Best Buy Mobile President Shawn Score and GRAMMY Foundation Vice President Scott Goldman.
The donations expand on the GRAMMY Foundation's support of music education in public high schools in conjunction with Best Buy Mobile and the company's philanthropic @15 platform. The Best Buy Children's Foundation has pledged nearly $1 million in overall support of the GRAMMY Foundation.
"Our ongoing partnership with Best Buy has allowed the GRAMMY Foundation to expand the reach of our music education programs for high schools and their students," said Kristen Madsen, Senior Vice President of the GRAMMY Foundation. "We appreciate Best Buy's commitment to music as well as the support of musicians like Kid Rock who work with us in schools all across the country."
Kid Rock has sold more than 25 million albums worldwide. His current album, Born Free, is his most critically acclaimed album to date, and the release has been accompanied by a worldwide tour. In addition to his musical activities, Kid Rock has become one of the country's most vocal supporters of U.S. military personnel serving overseas, making countless trips to provide entertainment and support. Kid Rock has also been a vocal advocate for all causes related to his hometown of Detroit, donating to countless organizations through his Kid Rock Foundation.
