Academy to provide free secured parking and sponsor various industry events at SXSW
As part of The Recording Academy's efforts to support music makers and the creative community, it will collaborate with South by Southwest March 18–21 to offer performers at the 2009 SXSW Music Festival free secured parking for their vehicles and gear with the GRAMMY Garage.
Located in Waterloo Park in downtown Austin, Texas, the parking garage is a short walk to venues hosting SXSW events such as Stubb's, Emo's and the Austin Convention Center. Additionally, The Recording Academy's Pacific Northwest and Texas Chapters, the MusiCares Foundation, the GRAMMY Foundation, and The Academy's Advocacy & Government Relations department will sponsor or host various events and programs throughout the weeklong festival.
"As the industry changes and continues to evolve, The Recording Academy recognizes and understands the challenges music makers face, and we are committed to offering our national music community the assistance and support they need," said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy. "We are extremely proud to collaborate with the organizers of SXSW to offer even more services to these inspiring musicians."
In its second year, GRAMMY Garage will provide artists officially showcasing at SXSW the opportunity to securely park their vehicles and their gear during the duration of the music festival. Parking spaces will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. The days and hours of operation of GRAMMY Garage at Waterloo Park are March 18–21 from 5 p.m. – 3 a.m. Additionally, The Recording Academy will have a membership booth in the Artist Village in Waterloo Park (403 E. 15th St., Austin, Texas) from March 18–21 from 5–10 p.m.
