The Recording Artists' Coalition marks its third year in close alliance with The Recording Academy. Since the historic announcement in 2011 that the two entities joined forces, the RAC has continued its mission of vigorous advocacy for recording artists as an integral program of The Academy's GRAMMYs on the Hill Initiative, which advances the rights of music creators through advocacy, education and dialogue.

The work of the RAC is now commemorated annually at the GRAMMYs on the Hill Awards, with the presentation of the Recording Artists' Coalition Award to artists who have made a difference in their industry and/or community. The 2014 honorees were GRAMMY-winning country group Lady Antebellum. Previous honorees include Jennifer Hudson and John Mayer.

The RAC's mission of advocacy continues the day after the awards, as hundreds of music creators lobby Congress at the music community's largest advocacy day, GRAMMYs on the Hill Advocacy Day.

The coalition was founded in 2000 by Don Henley and Sheryl Crow to address legislative issues that affect the recording artist community. Crow and RAC board members Jay Cooper and Simon Renshaw have testified on Capitol Hill on behalf of artists, and the organization has been at the forefront of numerous policy and regulatory matters affecting music creators. The Recording Academy has continued that mission with congressional witnesses such as GRAMMY winners Jimmy Jam and Maria Schneider, who have testified on behalf of creators.
