November 22, 2010 -- 3:38 pm PST

Carmike Cinemas Inc. unveiled its new "the Big D" theater at Franklin's Thoroughbred 20 location on Nov. 18 in Nashville. With the Franklin opening the Nashville area is becoming one of the first cities in the nation to offer theatergoers the exciting new Big D format being launched by Carmike Cinemas, an industry leader in digital projection and 3D technology since 2006.

A private VIP, red-carpet gala opening at Carmike Cinemas Thoroughbred 20 was hosted on Nov. 18. The invitation-only premiere included celebrity guests, community leaders and representatives from Carmike Cinemas, including company President/CEO David Passman. The Big D experience opened to the public with the midnight presentation of the new Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hollows. Proceeds from the sale of a special concession package at the VIP opening benefitted the GRAMMY Foundation and its music education programs for high school students.
