The annual Florida Chapter General Membership Meeting provides members with the
opportunity to hear about the state of the Chapter and reflect on the year's events
and initiatives. Comprehensive updates and reports on numerous Academy programs
and initiatives are provided by the Sr. Executive Director of the Florida Chapter,
other Recording Academy representatives, and the Florida Chapter Board of Governors.
In addition to its outreach within the music community in and around its Miami Beach
offices, the Florida Chapter is also committed to establishing and sustaining a
positive presence for The Recording Academy in the Florida and Puerto Rico music
communities. The Chapter has produced programs and/or participated in conferences
in Fort Lauderdale, Gainesville, Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa, West Palm Beach,
and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The Florida Chapter offers a culminating educational experience for college students
preparing for careers in the music industry. In an effort to better serve its local
music community, the Florida Chapter only accepts interns from Florida-area colleges
and universities. All applicants for the Florida Chapter Intern Program must be
juniors, seniors or graduate students, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, be
available 20 hours a week for 12 weeks, be studying music or a music industry-related
major, and be preparing for a career in the music or recording industry. Acceptable
majors include, but are not limited to: music performance, recording, composition,
music education, music therapy, music industry studies, music history, arts administration,
and entertainment law. Students must receive college credit for the internship.
For an application contact the Chapter office at 305.672.4060.

We encourage our Florida Chapter members who have not renewed their membership to
do so. We would like to thank those members that have renewed. The continued participation
of our members gives the Chapter the resources to provide quality educational events
and networking opportunities. Strong membership also allows us to have a stronger
voice in advocacy issues of importance to our membership.
All Chapter members receive a quarterly newsletter including event information,
local news and more. For additional information, please contact the Chapter office.

The Florida Chapter was officially established in November 1995. Recognizing the
growing music industry in South Florida, the Recording Academy chose Miami Beach
as its Florida headquarters. The Chapter is an integral part of the region's music
industry, expanding its presence throughout a state that has one of the most diverse,
talented, and fastest-growing music communities in the country.

The Florida Chapter office is located on Lincoln Road in the restored Albion Hotel
in the heart of Miami Beach's historic Art Deco District. The office is conveniently
located near many of Florida's music companies including major and independent record
labels, publishers, performing rights organizations and music television networks.
In a growing trend, Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Gainesville, Jacksonville, and other
areas of the state are being recognized, both nationally and internationally, as
active music centers crossing many genres. Historically significant recording studios
join with the large number of well-known local artists, songwriters, producers,
and engineers to further strengthen the state's musical scene.
Since its inception, the Florida Chapter has developed programming to reach its
diverse membership throughout the state. In the past, the Florida Chapter
held or participated in events in Ft. Lauderdale, Gainesville, Miami, Miami Beach,
Orlando, San Juan/Puerto Rico, Tampa and West Palm Beach.

Florida Chapter programs consist of professional education and networking opportunities
along with other events geared to the music community. These events include panel
discussions held to provide information on the current status of specific topics
within the music industry. The events are aimed toward both industry professionals
and developing newcomers and unite the membership in meetings of current and future
friends and artistic partners.
Student education is also a priority, and in conjunction with the GRAMMY Foundation,
the Florida Chapter also presents the GRAMMY Career Day, an annual event for local high
school music students. This year, the program was presented in Miami, at the University
of Miami's Frost School of Music.
Additionally, the chapter presents an annual Honors Awards. The highest honor conferred
by a Chapter of the Recording Academy, the Honors Awards recognize the Florida and
international music and community contributions of Florida-based artistic and music
business standouts.
